June’s Biz Buzz brought members of the Middleburg business community together for an evening of networking, conversation, and local updates, graciously hosted by Potomac Bank and Wiseman & Associates.
Guests were welcomed by the folks from Potomac Bank, who shared the story behind the institution’s recent name change from Bank of Charles Town. While the new name better reflects the bank’s growing presence throughout the region, the message was clear: their commitment to personalized service and community involvement remains the same.
A trusted part of the Middleburg community, Wiseman & Associates Wealth Management works closely with local families and businesses to help them achieve their financial goals and plan for future generations.
MBPA Updates
A highlight of the evening was a look back at the recently concluded 173rd Upperville Colt & Horse Show. Punkin reflected on another successful year for the nation’s oldest horse show, which welcomed thousands of spectators, competitors, and visitors to the village throughout the week.
“To be very blunt, I am horse showed out,” she laughed. “Barbara Sharp and Karla Etten created the entrance to the VIP tent that was nothing short of spectacular. Then Barbara and other local artists welcomed kids at the Art Under the Oaks tent to create their own masterpieces from Wednesday to Saturday.”
“John Denegre organized the largest ever Horses & Horsepower Invitational Car Show on Sunday, which included all types, all years, and all colors of cars!”
As always, Upperville’s success was made possible by the countless volunteers, local businesses, sponsors, and community members who contribute their time and energy each year.
“Lots of local ladies helped drive the Welcome Wagons all week long, delivering joy in snack form to the barns and lunches to all of the officials.”
She also highlighted the efforts behind the scenes, noting that “MBPA’s Katy Carter quarterbacked the social media team, which featured an array of photos, videos, and stories of Upperville and the people and horses who make it such a special place.”
The show’s spirit extended to the Main Hunter Ring as well. “Loudoun Therapeutic Riding and Sprout participated in the very special Therapeutic Equine Celebration on Saturday afternoon before a large crowd, showcasing their very important work, students, horses, volunteers and staff.”
Perhaps Punkin’s favorite story came from one of the food vendors on the jumper side. “She came all the way from Arizona and said we should change our name from the Upperville Colt & Horse Show, the Oldest Horse Show in America, to the Upperville Colt & Horse Show, the Friendliest Horse Show in America. It was her first time here and she summed up what our community always does—be friendly, helpful, and participate.”

Town Updates
The Middleburg Police Department and MBPA have again partnered to create an updated Duty Office Contact Card. This card has all the information you need should you need to contact the Police. Chief Shaun Jones will hand out the new cards in town in the coming days, but if you miss out, please contact the MPD Office at 540-687-6633.
The evening also provided an opportunity to recognize Town Manager Danny Davis, who will soon be leaving his role after more than seven years of service to the Town of Middleburg. We thank Danny for his leadership and dedication and wish him all the best as he returns to Loudoun County government!
A few individuals plotted a little something since MBPA missed Punkin’s birthday in May. Even though she hates attention, we all sang happy birthday, shared cake, and enjoyed the photos on display to celebrate her energy, her commitment, and her love for this town and the entire community. Punkin makes Middleburg feel like home.
Thank you to those members who provided door prizes for the evening: Potomac Bank, Bull Run Turf, Katie Barchas Wilson, Willowsford Conservancy, and BOWA!
Congratulations to our June winners: Sophie Lambert, John Kiernan, Michelle Lacaze, Peter Leonard Morgan, Kat Mahoney, and Austin Pierce!
The next Biz Buzz will be held on Tuesday, July 12 at Slater Run Vineyards from 5:30-7:30 pm. We hope to see you there!
