Reception: 1:30 pm
This powerful exhibition, The Heart of the Turf: Racing’s Black Pioneers, was developed by Keeneland Library and made possible at the National Sporting Library & Museum through the generosity of Virginia Guest Valentine. It highlights the remarkable lives and careers of 100 African American horsemen and women, from the mid-1800s to the present, honoring the legacies of these trailblazers who helped shape the Thoroughbred racing and breeding industry.
Two private group tours of the exhibition will be led by Claudia Pfeiffer, the George L. Ohrstrom, Jr. Deputy Director & Head Curator at the National Sporting Library & Museum. Guests will experience this extraordinary collection of rare photographs and biographical vignettes, offering both historical insight and a powerful visual narrative.
