Since 1951, Jack Boul (American, b. 1927) has lived and worked in the Washington, DC, area. He found inspiration for his artwork in the now-disappearing Virginia and Maryland countryside. The artist painted en plein air for much of his career and then in his studio from reference photographs.
Classically trained, Boul attended American Artist’s School in New York, Cornish School of Art, and American University and exhibited at the Corcoran and Baltimore Museum of Art. He was also a professor of art at American University for 15 years and taught at Washington Studio School until retiring in 1994.
Jack Boul: Timeless Landscapes highlights the artist’s impressionistic subjects which include cows and domesticated and wild fowl. A video featured in the exhibition offers intriguing first-person insight into his work and process.
