Members of the Shenandoah University Conservatory Jazz Department will warm up everyone in January with a performance of music from the Hot Jazz era. The concert is part of Emmanuel Episcopal Church’s “At The Parish House” performing arts series and takes place on Sunday, January 19 at 3 p.m. at Emmanuel’s Parish House, 105 East Washington St. in Middleburg
The Conservatory’s Hot Jazz Ensemble will feature trumpet, trombone, saxophone piano, bass and drum selections that include New Orleans Blues and Swing from the 20’s, 30’s and 40’s.
The group’s roots can be traced back to the 1950s when the Conservatory had one of the first collegiate jazz ensembles in the country. Over the years, the university’s jazz groups have toured China, Japan, Ireland, Ice-land, Germany, Spain, France and Senegal, and won acclaim at multiple major jazz festivals. Many graduates have gone on to prominent careers in jazz.
Examples of the brilliant music coming can be found with a YouTube search of “Shenandoah Conservatory Jazz Ensemble.”
