Join the Oak Spring Garden Foundation and naturalist Michael Gaige for a guided hike on the Appalachian Trail in Northern Virginia. This 6.5-mile route explores diverse habitats—pine knobs, rocky slopes, rich hardwood hollows—along with stone walls, old fields, and abandoned homesites that reveal both ecological and human history.
Details: The hike includes about 1,500 feet of elevation gain/loss and is suited for those experienced with moderate to strenuous hikes. Participants will meet at Snickers Gap trailhead, where an OSGF van will shuttle the group to the start point. The hike ends back at Snickers Gap. Aside from one outhouse, no restrooms are available.
What to Bring: Proper footwear, water, snacks, and weather-appropriate gear. Binoculars and cameras encouraged.
Lunch: A complimentary boxed lunch (turkey sandwich or gluten-free vegan option) will be provided. Participants with additional dietary needs should bring their own meal.
