The National Sporting Library & Museum invites the community to Coffee with the Guest Curator for a special look at The Heart of the Turf: Racing’s Black Pioneers, a traveling exhibit developed by the Keeneland Library.

This powerful exhibition highlights the lives and contributions of 100 African American horsemen and women from the mid-1800s to today. Featuring rare photographs and compelling biographical vignettes, it honors the legacy of athletes, grooms, trainers, and other essential figures who shaped the Thoroughbred racing and breeding industry. From the era of slavery to the modern day, their stories reflect resilience, excellence, and a deep connection to the sport.

Presented at the National Sporting Library & Museum with support from Virginia Guest Valentine.
