Join the National Sporting Library & Museum for an evening with Josh Pons, author of Letters from Country Life: Adolphe Pons, Man O’ War, and the Founding of Maryland. A third generation horseman and owner of Country Life Farm, Pons shares a century inside the Thoroughbred world, told from Maryland’s oldest Thoroughbred farm. He is a two time Eclipse Award winning writer and the 2024 Dr. Tony Ryan Book Award winner.
Based on thousands of letters discovered in 2016, the book traces the life of his grandfather Adolphe Pons, from his childhood in Gilded Age New York to his role in Man o’ War’s rise and the founding of Country Life Farm during the Great Depression. Drawing on letters, telegrams, and rare photographs, Pons brings to life an epic story spanning World War I, the Great Depression, and World War II, offering a fresh look at the Golden Age of horse racing and its lasting influence.
