MBPA members and guests gathered at BCT Middleburg to keep everyone up to speed on the latest, as well as honor longtime members of the community who are retiring!
“As this is a fairly new building, I have no history to share, other than it was once Mr. Clark’s alfalfa field before he gave it to The Hill School,” laughed Punkin Lee, MBPA President. “We thank BCT, Wiseman & Associates, Aldie Water and the Legion for hosting us tonight!”
The evening’s most heartfelt moments came with the recognition of several long-serving members of the Middleburg community.
Hilleary Bogley, who ran Scruffy’s Ice Cream Parlor for 36 years, was celebrated for her dedication and philanthropy—having donated nearly $30,000 to humane causes. “Hilleary may have hung up her ice cream scoop, but we will still see her at Old Millstone’s Thrift Shop on Washington Street,” said Punkin.
Mike Elliott, our beloved “Man in Brown”, is retiring after 36 years with UPS. “Mike has done so much for us,” said Punkin. From his early morning starts to his last stop of the day on Hamilton Street.” Mike, the Great Deliverer of Happiness, leaves big shoes to fill, but he will enjoy having more time to ride his motorcycle, attend gun shows, and not wear brown.
Tricia Hahn is retiring after 35 years with the Middleburg Post Office. “She kept mainly out of sight,” said Punkin. “She was the organizing force behind the wall, dealing with all the boxes, finding mail, and getting you your new key.” Tricia’s 4 am wake up calls are a thing of the past now, unless she has an early tee time!
Bob Dornin has spent the last 25 years maintaining the Hill School’s grounds and serving on the Town Streetscape Committee. We have him to thank for the beautiful walking loop the community enjoys and for maintaining the welcoming and lovely atmosphere. “Bob finishes up in June and heads home to attend to his honey-do list and some well-deserved travel plans,” said Punkin. “He may just take some time to sit under and enjoy his own trees.”
Cathy McGee has spent time in a different way- 11 years as Head of School at Foxcroft. Her visions came to fruition in the form of new buildings, a new hockey field, and an amazing capital campaign. Under Cathy’s leadership, the Foxcroft connection with the Town was reignited and thrived.
“Overseeing 200 teenage girls each year is a feat in itself, so we should probably add another 15 to her tenure,” laughed Punkin. “Cathy served on the Economic Development Committee, worked with Chief Shaun on emergency protocols, and welcomed MBPA to Covert many times.”
Thank you to Etten’s Eden and Greenhill Winery for providing flowers and wine for our honorees!
