Weekend Guide: June 30-July 2

— As we prepare to celebrate Independence Day, we are kicking off the weekend with a series of fun events, including the Granite Heights Wine Dinner at Harrimans Virginia Piedmont Grill, music and food trucks at some of our local vineyards, and a sketching session at the National Sporting Library & Museum. Here’s our roundup of the events you won’t want to miss this weekend:

Harrimans Virginia Piedmont Grill 50 West Wine Dinner Salamander Resort and Spa Middleburg VAGranite Heights Winery Wine Dinner at Harrimans Virginia Piedmont Grill: June 30 | 6:30-10 p.m.

Enjoy an exclusive four-course dinner prepared by Executive Chef Ryan Arensdorf and paired perfectly with selections from local vineyards in the intimate, private dining room at Harrimans. $150 per person. For reservations, please call 540-326-4070.

Open Late at the National Sporting Library & Museum: June 30 | 6-8 p.m.

Enjoy great music, family fun and food from Hammerdown BBQ  on the NSLM lawn on Friday, June 30! Concerts and museum admission are free and open to the public. Picnics are welcome but please no glass containers or outside alcohol is permitted. Cash bar featuring wine from Greenhill Winery & Vineyards and beer.

“Penny the Piano” at the Hill School: June 30 & July 1 at 7 p.m., July 2 at 2 p.m.

Penny comes to The Hill School in Middleburg! Come and bring your friends and family to this inspiring show by A Place to Be that is sure to capture your heart. This show is this weekend only, so don’t miss it!

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and curtain time will be at 7 p.m. for June 30 and July 1. On Sunday, doors open at 1:30 p.m., with a curtain time of 2 p.m.

Tickets available at the door for $10 each.

July 4th At Three Fox Vineyards: July 1-4

Celebrate our independence with Three Fox Vineyards. Bring a picnic or make one from what they have and enjoy it with their award-winning wines. Show your military ID, VFW or similar cards and get discounts on wine and merchandise purchases. On Saturday, enjoy live music by Movin’ On from 1:30-4:30 p.m.! On Saturday and Sunday, Talk of the Mountain Seafood will have their famous half-pound jumbo lump crab cake and Boardwalk fries for sale. On Sunday, Richard Giersch will be playing hits from the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s from 1:30-4:30 p.m.

Smokin’ Shawn’s at Boxwood Estate Winery: July 1

Boxwood is celebrating their 10th Anniversary Vintage Release throughout July 2017, with food trucks at the winery on Saturdays throughout the month. This week features Smokin’ Shawn’s.

Here’s the lineup for the rest of the month:

  • July 8: Grilled Reaper
  • July 15: King St. Oyster Bar (plus live music by Dave Goodrich)
  • July 22: TBD
  • July 29: King St. Oyster Bar

Blend with Friends at Salamander Resort & Spa: July 1 | 2-4 p.m.

Join Doug Fabbioli, co-founder and winemaker of Fabbioli Cellars, in a wine education and blending seminar. Taste the components that make up a great blend and create your own custom blend with this wine expert at your side. Also, enter for a chance to win a bottle of award-winning Fabbioli Cellars wine. $79 per person. For reservations, please call 540-326-4070.

On the schedule for the rest of July:

  • July 8 – Ice Cream and Sorbets: Beat the heat this summer with this delicious class all about frozen treats. Using fresh fruits, berries and herbs from Salamander’s culinary garden, their pastry chefs will show you how to whip up these refreshing treats at home.
  • July 15 – Pasta Perfection Class: Master the art of making homemade pasta in this hands-on class. You will leave saying ciao to store bought noodles.
  • July 22 – Sushi Rolling Class: Learn the art of hand rolling and how to select the freshest fish from Salamander’s new sushi chef. Once you’ve mastered the basics, you’ll be prepared to make great sushi at home whenever the craving arrives.
  • July 29 – Champagne Cocktails and Caviar Dreams: Create enchanting champagne cocktails paired perfectly with a selection of caviar for tasting. It will be the perfect activity for a stylish summer!

Sunday Sketch with Gail Guirreri-Maslyk at the National Sporting Library & Museum: July 2 | 2-4 p.m.

Enjoy a free sketching session in the museum galleries! Supplies (pencils, paper, sketch boards, and clipboards) will be provided for attendees. This week’s featured artist is local artist Gail Guirreri-Maslyk. Gail uses unexpected color and energetic brush strokes to create artwork that jumps off the canvas or page.

The program is free and open to the public of all ages. Participants will receive free admission to the museum. Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Pre-registration is encouraged.

The typical dinner and a movie date night just got updgraded. Bring your blankets and chairs and sit under the stars for a one-of-a-kind outdoor movie date night. With Salamander’s delicious picnic baskets and wine available for purchase, it is guaranteed to be a night to remember. On July 7, you will be enchanted by the looks and charm of Patrick Swayze as they screen the original “Dirty Dancing.” Many of the scenes in this movie were filmed just a few short hours from Salamander so to say that this is the perfect setting is an understatement. Chow down on some popcorn as you are surrounded by the very mountains that inspired this movie. Movie starts at 8:45 p.m.
