Middleburg’s Weekend Guide: June 16-18, 2017

— An early Happy Father’s Day to all the dads celebrating (and being celebrated) this weekend! We’ve got a lot of great activities going on this weekend, including live music at our local vineyards, a free dinner and cardboard regatta race at the Middleburg Community Center, special events for dads at Goodstone Inn and Salamander Resort, a caravan tour of Civil War battlefields, a black-tie gala for the Middleburg Humane Foundation and more. 50 West Live in the Vines Middleburg VALive in the Vines at 50 West Vineyards: June 16 | 5-8:30 p.m.

Bring your friends and join us for 50 West’s Live in the Vines Summer Concert Series! 50 West will have a band and a food truck at the vineyard every Friday night in June. There are no tickets to purchase or cover charge to pay — just show up and enjoy a great evening in Middleburg! This Friday features Shane Gamble + Roots 687.

Dinner & Cardboard Regatta at the Middleburg Community Center: June 16 | 6-8:30 p.m.

Join us to kick off our Saffer Summer Series with a Chick-Fil-A dinner, followed by a Cardboard Regatta Race! Teams will create boats using only cardboard and duct tape.

Father’s Day Weekend at Three Fox Vineyards: June 17-18

Treat Dad to a wonderful day at Three Fox. All fathers enjoy special discounts! On Saturday and Sunday, Talk of the Mountain Seafood will have seafood for sale. On Sunday, Richard Giersch will be playing hits from the 60s, 70s and 80s from 1:30-4:30 p.m.

Archery Competition with Dad at Salamander Resort & Spa: June 17

154th Anniversary Battles of Aldie, Middleburg, Upperville Caravan Tour: June 17 | 3 p.m.

Join the Mosby Heritage Area Association and NOVA Parks on a driving tour of the Aldie, Middleburg and Upperville Cavalry Battlefields, the second largest cavalry fight on the North American continent, fought as Union and Confederate armies moved north ultimately to Gettysburg from June 17-21, 1863. While many people often speed in their cars past many of the sites where the battles took place, take some time to slow down and explore these unique and preserved historic sites with the education staff of MHAA and NOVA Parks. Sites that will be visited include the 1st Massachusetts Cavalry Monument, Mount Defiance and the Goose Creek Bridge, among others.

The tour will begin at the historic Aldie Mill, 39401 John Mosby Hwy., Aldie, VA, 20105. Due to limited parking at several sites, attendees will need to carpool with each other along the tour.

Reservations are required for this event. There will be no payments accepted at the start of the program.

There are limited seats available, so purchase your tickets now. Tickets are $20 per person and can be purchased online.

National Sporting Library & MuseumBig Book Sale at the National Sporting Library & Museum: June 17 | 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

NSLM will hold a large sale of duplicate books, VHS tapes and magazines in the library building. As the rate of donation increases, they have worked hard to ensure duplicate books find homes with sporting enthusiasts and book lovers. The library offers duplicates for $5 a copy on the book cart in their library foyer throughout the year. Many books in the “Big Book Sale” will be available for a similar price, and their most enthusiastic bibliophiles visit the book sale early to find great deals on favorite titles.

Coffee with the Curator at the National Sporting Library & Museum: June 17 | 10-11:30 a.m.

Enjoy an informal coffee reception followed by a special tour with NSLM’s George L. Ohrstrom Sr. Curator of Art Claudia Pfeiffer. Music & Nada Yoga with Meditation Workshop at Salamander Resort & Spa: June 17 | 10:30-11:45 a.m.

Whether you are a music lover, a yoga lover or both, this workshop is a wonderful way to relax and go deeper in both body and mind. Nada Yoga, or meditation with sounds, uses the science of sound and vibration to accompany meditation and enhance its benefits. Class will start and end with a meditation set to music and in between flow through, a yoga practice accompanied by traditional Indian Ragas music to enhance your practice. Middleburg Humane Foundation is having its 22nd annual black-tie fundraising gala on June 17 to raise funds for the operation of their shelter for abused and neglected animals, both large and small.
