Top 18 Events You Won’t Want to Miss this January in Middleburg, Virginia

1. “The Horse in Ancient Greek Art” at the National Sporting Library & Museum: Through Jan. 14

If you haven’t seen it yet or want to catch another glimpse before it closes, this is your last chance to see “The Horse in Ancient Greek Art” at the National Sporting Library & Museum. The exhibit features Greek vases, sculpture, and coins from the 8th through the 4th centuries BCE drawn from private collections, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, the Tampa Museum of Art, and other museum collections. The exhibition and accompanying publication explore the significance of the horse in ancient Greek culture, and imagery of the horse in ancient myth, war, sport, and competition. From some of the earliest examples of the horse in Greek art, to stunning examples of black and red-figure vases, the objects on view illustrate ancient equestrian life.

Smith Educator or museum curators will give attendees a personalized sneak peek at traveling exhibitions, permanent collections, and the fascinating stories behind the works in the museum’s art collections. Middleburg Humane Foundation Dinners13. Good Friends for a Good Cause: Jan. 20 | 6-9:30 p.m.

This unique event is the opportunity for you and a date to attend dinner at one of Middleburg and Upperville’s beautiful and historic estates, while supporting the animals at Middleburg Humane Foundation.

Estates include Tiger Trap, Alston, Edgewood, Carrig Spring, Burnt Mill and more.

All placements for dinner will be drawn by lottery. Once tickets are purchased, a representative from the Middleburg Humane Foundation will contact you 10 days prior to the event with your personal information regarding the estate dinner you will attend. Girasole The Plains VA18. Three Fox Vineyards & Girasole Ristorante Murder Mystery Dinner: Jan. 28 | 6:30 p.m.

Join us for an evening of fun, intrigue and deliciousness. Hosted by John and Holli Todhunter of Three Fox Vineyards, you’ll be transported to the famous Camponeschi Ristorante in Rome where a prominent judge is being given an award. Unfortunately, it appears the award will need to be given posthumously. Enjoy a four-course dinner featuring classic Roman dishes and wine pairings by Virginia’s Three Fox Vineyards. With each course, you’ll get clues to help solve the judge’s murder.
